Palm Springs welcomed more than 1,000 members of the Mongols Motorcycle Club for the group’s national gathering, but the weekend passed with only minor incidents. According to local police, the rally drew riders from across the country and required help from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, California Highway Patrol and federal agencies to provide extra officers and patrols. The event began on Wednesday and most riders had left by Sunday afternoon.
During the multi-day event police made about two dozen arrests for violations ranging from carrying a gun without a permit to driving under the influence and other traffic offences, but officials said there were no major problems or public safety threats. Officers said they could not provide a precise attendance figure because some participants may not have been patched members of the club, but they estimated the numbers at over a thousand.
